OpenAI ships Codex Micro, a hardware interface for code generation

Codex Micro is less a hardware debut than a scoping decision: by launching a narrow, developer-specific peripheral instead of a general consumer device, OpenAI is effectively running a low-stakes market test that insulates the company from the reputational risk of a stumble in consumer hardware, a category that has burned several well-funded AI firms.
