Unified latent framework enables flexible any-to-any multimodal generation
MUNITE proposes a unified latent-variable framework that collapses the distinction between encoding and generation into a single conditional inference problem. By modeling any subset of input modalities as partial evidence toward a complete multimodal representation, the approach enables flexible any-to-any generation (text-to-image, audio-to-video, etc.) within one flow model. Shared latent samples preserve consistency across outputs while modality-specific decoders handle independent uncertainty. This architectural shift matters because it sidesteps the need for separate task-specific models, potentially reducing training overhead and improving generalization across modality pairs that weren't explicitly seen during training.62
